The OCC Operator is part of a team that is responsible for dispatch, monitoring, analysis and performance reporting of Infigen’s assets.



Physical Market Activities

  • Optimise generation revenue through physical market activities.
  • Manage risk associated with volatility in the electricity and ancillary service markets.
  • Analyse short term electricity market conditions and operational considerations.
  • Understand the impact of transmission and dispatch constraints within the National Electricity Market (NEM) and minimise the impact they have on the Infigen’s assets.
  • Provide guidance and advice to the business on the potential impact of transmission or plant outages and network rearrangements around the NEM.
  • Liaise with the market operator AEMO and transmission companies regarding their decisions, network outages, constraints and their impact on Infigen.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of trading operations protocols and bidding of Infigen’s generation into the NEM.


Analysis and Reporting

  • Keep up-to-date with and maintain a record of operational events relevant to operations reporting.
  • Investigate operational observations through investigative analysis.
  • Analyse short term electricity market conditions and operational considerations.
  • Analyse and provide clear concise synopsis and reports of key activities in the energy market for the benefit of Infigen staff.


Monitoring and Issue Management

  • Deliver 24/7 monitoring function of Infigen’s operational assets, using various systems including SCADA, meteorological and electricity market systems and the maintenance management system.
  • Monitoring of turbine status to notify site staff and service providers of down-time within turbines or other assets according to real-time criteria including wind speed and spot market prices.
  • Work closely with the Site Manager and the Operations Manager to help identify and implement changes to improve asset performance.
  • Manage the assets within operating protocols as set out in various commercial agreements.
  • Understand and interpret SCADA event and alarm codes to understand criticality of faults.
  • Monitor major events and inform the business, Site Manager and third parties.
  • Provide point of contact with third parties including network service providers, market operators, suppliers, off-takers and electricity market participants.
  • Keep up-to-date with each site’s maintenance plan to enable understanding of events taking place on site and ensure operational and energy market’s expectations are aligned.


Production Scheduling

  • Assist in the coordination of production scheduling.
  • Interpret meteorological and market data to estimate power output and expected revenue for Infigen’s wind and solar farms in future periods.



Qualifications / Knowledge

  • Preference for tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Finance related disciplines.  Engineering and science qualifications will also be considered.
  • Knowledge of electricity generation principles.


Skills / Experience

  • Experience trading electricity with Australian generators is highly beneficial.
  • Experience working in the National Electricity Market (NEM).
  • Experience working with established trading systems and market data systems.
  • Experience working in electricity generation infrastructure.
  • Strong IT literacy and proficient user of MS Excel.
  • Experience with database queries such as SQL, VBA, Power Query/BI.
  • SCADA system experience is advantageous.
  • Highly numerate and analytical with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and also thrive within a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated use of initiative and a common sense approach.
