Australia’s only wind farm fun-run one month away
10 September 2015
Infigen Energy’s fourth annual fun run, ‘Run with the Wind’, is only one month away.
The event will be held on Sunday, 11th of October, among the turbines of the Woodlawn wind farm, near Tarago, New South Wales. The fun run has two courses, a 5 kilometre and a 10 kilometre course, both climbing the infamous ‘Giant hill’. The wind farm comprises 23 wind turbines, and has been generating electricity since October 2011.
Run with the Wind took off in 2012 and has been held every year since. Previous events have attracted Green, Liberal and Labor MPs, family fun runners and spectators – we’ve even enticed Olympians.
This year a cash prize of $1,500 each is given to the fastest woman and the fastest man at the 10km race, with the runner up prizes of $350 for the second place and $200 for the third place. Prizes are given to the fastest team to cross the 10 kilometre finish line, fastest runner representing Lake George, Tarago or Bungendore and the fastest pram pusher in the 5 and 10 kilometre races.
Net proceeds from ticket and singlet sales go towards the Bungendore Community Foundation and volunteers from local community groups. This year’s target is $5,000. Groups such as the Tarago Sporting Association, Boro Mt Fairy RFL and the Bungendore Pony Club have benefited from the event in previous years. This year’s BBQ is cooked up by the Taylors Creek RFL, a band from Canberra is playing live music and kids can take a pony ride, courtesy of the Bungendore Community and Sports Club.
The event is part of the Australian national wind farm open day, run by the Clean Energy Council. Other participating wind farms include the Collgar wind farm in Western Australia, and the Musselroe wind farm in Tasmania.
