Community Engagement Benefits of the Woodlawn Fun Run in 2012

The Tarago Sporting Association would like to thank Infigen for hosting the Woodlawn Fun Run in November 2012. It was the first event of its kind in the area and the community response to the event was fantastic.

There were over 400 runners from as far away as Melbourne in Victoria, and every one that our local volunteers spoke to on the day said that it was a great event, and they would come back to Tarago again if another run was organised.

The engagement at a local level was excellent, with Tarago providing a small number of runners, including Jason Payne third in his age group. Jason was delighted to have his photo taken with Martin Dent, Australian representative at the 2012 London Olympics.

Thirty one volunteers from all community organisations in Tarago participated in the event, as well as additional volunteers from Bungendore.

The community organisations represented were Tarago Sporting Association, Tarago and District Progress Association, Country Women’s Association (Tarago Branch) Parents and Citizens committee, Tarago Show Society and Landcare (Tarago).

The Tarago locals assisted with registrations and the recovery station, some were marshals or water station attendants, one drove their bus and others provided the barbeque catering.

Local business benefitted by the increased traffic to the event, with 400 competitors and probably a similar or larger numbers of supporters, both the shop and hotel  were busy at various times during the day .

The Tarago Sporting Association is looking forward to assisting with the fun run again.

Please find theDecember issue of the Tarago Times, our community newspaper, where our experience at the Fun Run was documented.

Kind Regards

Neil Shepherd
