Run with the Wind 2013 at Woodlawn
18 November 2013
Infigen Energy hosted the second annual Run with the Wind event at its Woodlawn wind farm near Tarago, New South Wales, on 17 November 2013.
Over 600 competitors tackled the challenging 8km and 5km courses that meandered through the wind turbines overlooking Lake George.
In a blistering pace, the Olympic marathon runner Martin Dent took out the men’s category in a course record time of 23 minutes and 38 seconds.
“It was great to be able to come back out to the wind farm and compete in this amazing event and also knock a few seconds off last year’s time”.
The women’s race was taken out once again by Andrea Ilakovac in 31 minutes and 15 seconds.
Community Sporting Event
Newly elected federal member for Hume, Hon Angus Taylor MP, was the official race starter for the 8km event and put on an impressive performance finishing third in his age category. He joined a large contingent of supporters from the local community who participated in Run with the Wind.
“Run with the Wind is a great opportunity for the whole community to participate in an event where they can get up close to the turbines and experience what it’s like inside one of the largest wind farms in New South Wales,” Infigen Energy Senior Development Manager and race co-ordinator Frank Boland said.
Proceeds raised from the event will go towards local community groups, including the Tarago Sporting Association and Bungendore Pony Club.
The Greater Western Sydney Giants were proud supporters of the event.
National Day of Climate Action
This year’s event coincided with the national Day of Climate Action which took place across towns in Australia and featured a number of regional events including Run with the Wind.
“Wind farms such as the Woodlawn wind farm directly address climate change by shifting electricity generation towards a cleaner energy mix. Infigen Energy is proud to support the rally and host Australia’s first wind farm fun run,” said Infigen Energy Managing Director, Miles George.
