LAKE BONNEY VISIT – FEEDBACK
14 September 2015
Below is some feedback we received after a school visit to the Lake Bonney Wind Farm.
10 Metalwork Excursion to Lake Bonney Wind Farm
On Friday, Week 6 Metalwork students were comfortably chauffeured by Mr Dunn, bus driver extraordinaire, to the Lake Bonney Wind Farm for an excursion focused on the commercial harvesting of wind energy.
It is fantastic when industry gets behind a school and supports their learning programmes, and Infigen Energy jumped at the opportunity, tailoring their presentation and tour to the cohort of students in attendance.
Not only did they get the opportunity to ask questions of the technicians who were available at the time, but students also got to see first hand two of the wind turbine blades on the ground. They were able to touch, bend, pound and get a general feel for their fibre-composite construction.
Much was learned about the energy grid, as well as how the market buys energy from power stations. Our thanks go out to Infigen Energy, especially Shane Kelly (site manger Lake Bonney Wind Farm) who ran the tour.
